If you've become frustrated with the platform, feel free to attend our OpenThread event, where Google and MySpace will fill users in on the current state of OpenSocial. Did I mention it was catered? http://blog.socialmedia.com/op...

Re: New FB Profiles: Don’t Give Away Your Ad Impressions

Sorry to beat this dead horse, but as a fellow app developer relying on advertising like many:

http://developers.facebook.com...

"...Developers can continue to run advertising on canvas pages and monetize their applications in other ways...."

I don't know about you, but it doesn't sound like Facebook even acknowledges the fact they are sneaking in skyscraper ads to the right of canvas pages. I've always been wary of their self-righteous / non-business / tree-hugging culture and I'm afraid it has finally manifested itself with these latest developments.

Shall we all stand together on this one?

Re: New FB Profiles: Don’t Give Away Your Ad Impressions

Facebook appears to be layering a dhtml ad *on top* of canvas pages. Many of us have tried to simply scoot their ads to the side but are having no luck. Take a look at Slide's apps and Rockyou's apps and you will see these two largest publishers are having the same problem on the new facebook design. Might take a few refreshes to get an ad since I'm sure Facebook campaigns aren't oversold (for now).

Re: New FB Profiles: Don’t Give Away Your Ad Impressions

This is pure outrage - take a look at Slide (superpoke) and Rockyou (superwall), and you will see the facebook skyscraper text and banner ads on their canvas pages on the new facebook re-design. As the largest app developers with their own advertisers, they are surely scrambling to "re-own" their canvas pages. It can't be good for Slide & Rockyou now that Facebook has decided to encroach on their ad space.

This is going to send a huge ripple wave down any app developer's alley who is relying on their app/canvas revenues for their business.

Facebook has to address and/or fix this so that app developers can reclaim this space.

Re: New FB Profiles: Don’t Give Away Your Ad Impressions

You can select full canvas to push FB's ads off the page and just not adjust your aspect ratio. It will just result in white space next to your app, but will show up the same in old facebook. Over the next couple of months I recommend you either switch over completely to the new profile if it's rolled out completely. FB also gives you a variable you can check to see if it's the new or old format.

Re: New FB Profiles: Don’t Give Away Your Ad Impressions

Do you think we should wait to select use full canvas width until all users adapt the new facebook?

If yes do you have any idea as to when this will happen?

Re: New FB Profiles: Don’t Give Away Your Ad Impressions

Anand, go into the developer application and select, use full canvas width. You can then fill the remaining space with more content by redesigning your app to be wider. The new space should accommodate our "TV" ad units and upcoming skyscrapers.

Re: New FB Profiles: Don’t Give Away Your Ad Impressions

Any tips on how to get people to focus on our app and our ads and ignore facebook's ads?
